Newton Abbot's location at the head of the Teign estuary and on the edge of Dartmoor makes it a good base for day trips. The town's railway connections are surprisingly useful — direct trains run to Exeter, Plymouth, Totnes, and along the Riviera Line to Torquay and Paignton.
