Getting There

Plymouth is well served by rail from London Paddington — Great Western Railway runs direct services in around 3 hours 15 minutes. There are also direct services from Bristol, Birmingham, and the north. The train station is centrally located, a short walk from the city centre.

National Express and Megabus serve Plymouth by coach from London and other major cities. By road, the A38 (Devon Expressway) connects Plymouth to the M5 at Exeter; the drive from London takes around four hours.

Plymouth Airport closed in 2011 and there is no commercial airport in the city. The nearest airports are Exeter (45 minutes) and Bristol (90 minutes). Newquay Airport in Cornwall is also accessible. The Brittany Ferries terminal at Millbay Docks runs regular crossings to Roscoff in Brittany and Santander in Spain — a useful entry point for travellers crossing from continental Europe.
