Agatha Christie Mile

Self-guided walk past Torquay's Agatha Christie landmarks

A short walking route along the seafront that links a dozen places connected to Agatha Christie — the bronze bust on the harbourside, the Imperial Hotel (which appears in several of her novels), the Pavilion (where she first met her future husband), the Grand Hotel where she honeymooned, and the pier where she watched concerts as a child. The trail is marked by plaques along the way; you can pick up a leaflet at the tourist information centre or download it from the Torre Abbey website.

Allow about an hour for the full walk. Best done in combination with the Agatha Christie collection at Torquay Museum.

A story
Christie's mother bought her a swimming costume for a sixpence at Torquay's Pavilion, and Christie remembered watching the bandstand concerts as a girl. She used the Imperial Hotel as a setting in *Peril at End House*, and the Grand Hotel for her honeymoon with Archibald Christie in 1914.
