Anstey's Cove

Tiny shingle cove tucked into the cliffs north of Meadfoot

A pretty little cove tucked between Meadfoot and Babbacombe, reached by a wooded footpath that drops about ten minutes down the cliff from the car park on Ilsham Marine Drive. The beach itself is small and pebbly, the water unusually clear, and the surrounding cliffs are popular with climbers. A timber-framed cafe at the back of the beach serves coffee, fish and chips, and beer.

The painter John Keats walked here in 1818 and called it "the finest in our neighbourhood". It still feels like that — quieter and prettier than the main resort beaches.
