Babbacombe Model Village

Four acres of miniature England with 13,000 tiny inhabitants

A model village on a scale that takes itself seriously. Four acres of meticulously built miniature landscapes, with thousands of one-inch figures going about their business — football matches, fires being put up, weddings, traffic jams, a beach scene complete with topless sunbathers. It has been a Torquay fixture since the early 1960s and is the sort of attraction that sounds twee on paper and turns out to be hugely entertaining in person.

After dark in summer the whole thing is lit up, with thousands of fibre-optic lights in the buildings and along the model roads. There is also a smaller indoor model railway. Allow two hours, longer with children.

Hampton Avenue, Babbacombe, TQ1 3LA.
