Founded in 1196 as a Premonstratensian monastery, Torre Abbey is the best-preserved medieval abbey in Devon and Cornwall. After the Dissolution it passed through several private owners and was eventually converted into a Georgian mansion. Today it functions as a historic house museum and art gallery, with medieval rooms alongside Georgian interiors and one of the largest public art collections in Devon.
The grounds include a formal garden and a tithe barn that dates from the original monastic foundation. The abbey sits right on the seafront at The Kings Drive, within easy walking distance of the town centre. Tel: 01803 293593.
