St Chad's is smaller than St Mary's but older in feel, with Norman stonework tucked into the centre of Stafford. It is easy to miss if you are only following the shops, which is part of its appeal: the church feels like a fragment of the town that survived by being just slightly off the main line of attention.
Look for the carved Romanesque details and the heavy, intimate atmosphere of the older parts of the building. Together with St Mary's, it makes Stafford a better church town than many visitors expect.
