Shire Hall

Shire Hall is Stafford's old county court building, a late Georgian landmark facing the market place. Its classical frontage gives the centre a small dose of civic grandeur, and it helps explain Stafford's long role as the administrative heart of the county.

The building has had a stop-start recent life, so check current access before making a special trip inside. Even from the square, though, it is worth a look: the facade, the setting, and the surrounding legal-quarter buildings give Stafford more weight than its modest size suggests.
