The Doncaster Mansion House stands on the High Street, its Georgian facade a formal contrast to the market-town bustle around it. Built between 1745 and 1748 to the designs of architect James Paine, it was intended to provide the Mayor of Doncaster with an official residence and a venue for civic entertainment — and it has been doing that ever since.
The house occasionally opens to visitors for tours and during heritage open days, when you can see the state rooms, the ballroom, and the fine plasterwork interiors. It is not open daily, so check in advance. From the outside it is one of the best Georgian street facades in South Yorkshire.
