Fruit Market

Regenerated warehouse quarter south of the Old Town, full of independent bars, galleries and design studios

The Fruit Market was Hull's wholesale produce district until the 1990s, when the trade moved to a larger site outside the centre and the brick warehouses fell vacant. A long regeneration in the 2010s turned the streets into the city's main cluster of independent restaurants, galleries, and creative studios, anchored by the Humber Street Gallery and a row of converted warehouses on Humber Street itself.

This is where Hull's design and music scene clusters today. Stage @TheDock is the focus for tech events; Humber Street Sesh is the local music festival; and the lanes between Humber Street and the Marina fill up on summer evenings. Some buildings still carry their original signage — Maltbys, the Fruit Auction Hall — alongside coffee roasters and natural-wine bars.
