Buckden Pike

Buckden Pike is the local summit, rising to 702 m above the village. The climb is a proper Dales walk rather than a casual stroll, but the reward is a broad view over Upper Wharfedale and the surrounding moors.

Near the top is a memorial to a Polish-crewed Wellington bomber that crashed here in a blizzard in 1942. The story gives the walk a sombre pause: one injured airman survived after following a fox track down through the snow towards Cray.
