Ballymena has a reasonable spread of pubs in the town centre, most of them working-town locals rather than tourist-facing bars. The town is strongly Protestant in character — the "city of the seven towers" refers to its church spires — which historically meant strict licensing and limited Sunday trading, though this has eased considerably. The café at The Braid arts centre is a reliable option for daytime coffee.
