Portglenone Woods

Ancient woodland beside the River Bann, known for spring bluebells and quiet riverside paths.

Portglenone Woods is one of the better nature detours from Ballymena: mature woodland dropping toward the River Bann, with carpets of bluebells in spring and enough path options for a proper leg-stretch rather than a five-minute viewpoint. It is a gentler counterpoint to Slemish and the more built-up sights around town.

Come for a walk, not for facilities or spectacle. The woods work best in spring or early summer, though the riverside setting is pleasant at any time when the paths are dry enough underfoot.
