Downpatrick is about 21 miles south of Belfast. By car, follow the A24 and A7 from Belfast, or approach from Newry via the A25 through Castlewellan.
Goldliner buses link Downpatrick with Belfast and Newry, and local buses connect with Strangford, Newcastle, Castlewellan, and Ballynahinch. A car is helpful for the outlying wells, stone circle, and countryside stops, though the centre and Inch Abbey can be combined on foot by determined walkers.
