A boat trip is the simplest way to understand Enniskillen. From the water, the town's island position makes sense, and Lower Lough Erne opens into a landscape of wooded shores, jetties, and monastery ruins.
Regular cruises often include Devenish Island in season. Small self-drive boats are also available, but pay attention to markers and weather; the lough can feel much bigger once you leave the shelter of town.
