Devenish Island is the most memorable short trip from Enniskillen. Its ruined monastery, round tower, and medieval churches stand in Lower Lough Erne, reached by ferry or as part of a boat trip.
The island setting is half the experience. The stonework is good, but arriving across the water makes it feel properly separate from the modern town.
