Craigievar Castle

Craigievar Castle is the pink, turreted tower house that looks almost too theatrical to be real. Built between the late 16th and early 17th centuries, it is one of the great examples of Scottish Baronial architecture, with carved plaster ceilings and Jacobean woodwork inside.

Visits are usually by guided tour, which suits the place: the rooms are compact, the details are easy to miss, and the castle feels more like a private fantasy than a military stronghold.
