The Royal Deeside Railway runs a short preserved stretch of the old Aberdeen to Ballater line from Milton of Crathes. It is modest, but the setting is right: Dee valley woodland, old railway atmosphere, and Crathes Castle close by.
Check operating days before building a plan around it. When trains are running, it pairs neatly with the castle or a walk on the Deeside Way.
