Pennan sits about four kilometres east of Crovie around the headland and is, in many ways, Crovie's twin: another single row of whitewashed cottages crammed between cliff and shore. The setting is just as dramatic, but Pennan has the small advantage of a road down to the harbour and a hotel that serves food and pints.
The Pennan Inn has rooms and an open kitchen — book ahead in summer. Beyond the inn the village is tiny: a phone box, a few benches above the slipway, and the cliff path leading along the coast. The drive in from the B9031 is steep with hairpin bends; take it slowly, and don't try it in winter when the road can ice over badly.
