Kinloss Abbey is a quiet ruin now, but it was once one of the major Cistercian houses in Scotland. The remains are fragmentary, with walls and carved details scattered around a working village setting, which makes the place feel less managed than many better-known monastic ruins.
It is worth the short trip from Forres if you like medieval sites that ask for a little imagination. Do not expect a complete abbey church; expect a peaceful, open site where the surviving stonework hints at a much richer religious house. It combines easily with Brodie Castle or Findhorn.
