The lower village of Foyers sits right on the loch shore, with a small jetty, a pebble beach, and a clear view across to the wooded west bank below Drumnadrochit. This is one of the few places on the south side where you can drive straight to the water's edge, which makes it a popular swim-and-paddle stop on a summer's day. The water is cold even in August.
Looking north up the loch on a still evening, the surface goes glass-flat for a kilometre at a time — perfect conditions for the kind of optical effects that have kept the monster legend alive for ninety years.
