Dundrennan Abbey

Dundrennan Abbey is a ruined Cistercian monastery founded in the 12th century. Its Romanesque stonework survived the Reformation better than many Scottish abbeys, leaving substantial walls, arches, and fragments of the church and cloister.

The abbey is a short drive from Kirkcudbright and rewards visitors who enjoy quiet medieval ruins without large crowds.
