Kirkcudbright Galleries

Town gallery showing the artists who made Kirkcudbright famous.

Kirkcudbright Galleries is the town's main public art space, housed in a former town hall on St Mary Street. Its collection explains why this small harbour town became known as an artists' colony, with works by E. A. Hornel, Jessie M. King, Charles Oppenheimer, and other painters linked to the area.

The building also hosts temporary shows, so it is worth checking even if you already know the local story. Pair it with Broughton House to see both the finished art and the domestic world that produced some of it.
