Cartland Craigs and Clyde Valley Woodlands

Ancient woodland and sandstone ravines around Telford's high Cartland Bridge

North-west of town, Mouse Water cuts through the Cartland Craigs section of the Clyde Valley Woodlands. The old road bridge, built by Thomas Telford in 1822, crosses high above the ravine and gives the walk a fine piece of engineering drama before the trees close in.

This is a quieter counterpoint to the Falls of Clyde rather than a substitute. Come if you want a less busy woodland walk, or if you are interested in how sharply the rivers have carved this part of Lanarkshire.
