Castlebank Park

Castlebank Park is Lanark's green space just south of the town centre, edged by St Patrick's Road and the old Castlegate area. The castle that gave the street its name stood at the east end of the park, beneath what is now Lanark Thistle's bowling green.

The castle was built in the 12th century and had fallen into ruin by around 1400. There is not much masonry to inspect now, but the park makes a useful pause between the town centre and the walks leading down toward New Lanark and the Clyde.
