Dunadd Fort is a small hill with an outsized place in Scottish history, rising above the flats near Lochgilphead and Kilmartin Glen. It was a power centre of the early Gaelic kingdom of Dalriada, with rock carvings, defensive terraces, and wide views over a landscape dense with prehistoric monuments.
The climb is short but uneven, and the reward is both archaeological and atmospheric. Stand on the summit and the surrounding bogs, hills, and sea routes explain why this modest-looking rock mattered.
