Peterhead Prison Museum occupies the former prison that opened in 1888 and became known as one of Scotland's harshest jails. Prisoners once worked in a nearby quarry and helped build the town's southern breakwater.
The self-guided route passes cells, exercise areas, and exhibits on prison life and punishment. Allow around 90 minutes to two hours if you want to take in the full story.
