Glenmorangie is the reason many travellers know Tain at all. The distillery sits north of town near the Dornoch Firth and is one of Scotland's best-known single malt producers, with tall stills and a visitor operation aimed at people who want more than a quick shop stop.
Book ahead if you want a tour, especially in summer. Even if whisky is not your main reason for coming north, this is an easy way to put one of the Highlands' great exports into a real landscape of barley fields, firth air, and working warehouses.
