The Haughs and Deveron Walk

Riverside parkland by the Deveron, used for the Turriff Show and for everyday walks

The Haughs is the broad riverside parkland on the banks of the River Deveron just south of the town, used in early August for the Turriff Show and the rest of the year as the town's main park. A circular walk of about 4 km follows the river upstream from the bridge, crosses by a footbridge, and returns along the opposite bank through woodland and meadow — flat, well-marked, and one of the best easy walks in the area.

The Deveron itself is a major Scottish salmon and trout river, with beats on the stretch around Turriff fished from late February through October. The fishing is privately let through the local estates; day tickets are sometimes available through the tackle shop in Turriff. Even for non-anglers, watching the spey-casters work the pools on a summer evening is a quiet pleasure.
