Turriff Show

Two-day agricultural show in early August, the largest two-day agricultural show in Scotland

The Turriff Show, held on the first Sunday and Monday of August, is Scotland's largest two-day agricultural show and one of the oldest — it has run since 1864, with breaks only for the world wars and the 2001 foot-and-mouth crisis. It draws around 30,000 visitors over the two days to the Haughs of Turriff just south of the town, where livestock judging, heavy-horse classes, sheepdog trials, vintage tractor displays, and trade stands fill 60 acres of show field.

For visitors not in the cattle-judging audience, the appeal is the sheer scale and the unguarded glimpse it gives of north-east Scottish farming life. The food halls (regional cheeses, meats, baking), the heavy horse parade, and the show jumping are the standout events for the general public. Accommodation in Turriff itself is fully booked weeks ahead; coaches run from Aberdeen on show days.
