The Skirrid, or Ysgyryd Fawr, stands northeast of Abergavenny with a profile that is easy to pick out from almost anywhere around town. Its Welsh name is often linked to the idea of a split or shattered hill, and from some angles the ridge does look as if a slice has been torn away.
The walk is short but steep enough to feel earned. From the top you can look back to Sugar Loaf and Blorenge, which makes the Skirrid a good final piece in understanding Abergavenny's ring of hills.
