Sugar Loaf is Abergavenny's signature hill, a rounded 596-metre summit north of town. It looks gentle from below, but the final pull is exposed enough to feel like a real walk rather than a park stroll.
On a clear day the reward is excellent: Abergavenny below, the Usk valley opening south, the Black Mountains to the north, and the Brecon Beacons beyond. It is the simplest reason to choose Abergavenny over a more ordinary market-town stop.
