Day Trips

Bangor's greatest asset is its location. Within an hour in any direction you have some of the best scenery in Wales.

Caernarfon is 12 km southwest: one of Edward I's great Welsh castles, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and a strongly Welsh-speaking town worth half a day of exploration. Snowdonia is the obvious draw to the south — the Snowdon Mountain Railway runs from Llanberis (30 minutes by car) to the summit, or you can walk any of several paths. Conwy is 20 km east along the coast: another UNESCO-listed castle, a nearly complete medieval town wall, and the narrowest house in Britain.

Anglesey, across the Menai Strait, has beaches, coastal walking, prehistoric sites (Bryn Celli Ddu burial chamber), and the village with the longest place name in the world.
