Brecon Cathedral

Small cathedral in a medieval close that still feels half church, half fortress.

Brecon Cathedral began in the orbit of a Norman fortification and later became the Priory Church of St John the Evangelist. That mixed origin still gives the close a tougher feel than many small cathedrals.

Inside the walls are some of the most complete monastic buildings in Wales. It is not a vast cathedral, but it is the town's most rewarding sight and a good anchor for a slow walk through old Brecon.
