The Brecon Mountain Railway is a heritage steam railway running from Pant, north of Merthyr Tydfil, into the Bannau Brycheiniog landscape. Restored locomotives follow a private line past Pontsticill Reservoir toward Dolygaer, with open views of water, hills, and old industrial country.
It is best treated as a half-day outing from the Brecon area rather than a town-centre sight. Families and railway enthusiasts will get the most from it, especially on clear days when the reservoir and mountain views are part of the ride.
