Black Boy Inn

Hidden inside the walls on Northgate Street, the Black Boy Inn claims a continuous history back to 1522, which would make it one of the oldest surviving inns in North Wales. The interior — heavy beams, flagstone floors, open fires, low ceilings — looks the part, with rooms named after sea captains and slate masters and a small cobbled courtyard at the back.

It serves real ales and a substantial pub menu of Welsh lamb, fish, and pies. Lunch is the easiest time to get a table; in the evening the small bar rooms fill quickly. Rooms above the pub are bookable, with the older ones overlooking the courtyard.
