Getting Around

Cardiff city centre is compact and best explored on foot. The main sights — the castle, the arcades, Cathays Park — are all within comfortable walking distance of Cardiff Central station. Cardiff Bay requires a bus or about a 30-minute walk south through Butetown.

The city has a reasonable bus network operated by Cardiff Bus. The Baycar (route 6) connects the city centre to Cardiff Bay every 10 minutes. The city's taxi network is reliable and relatively affordable by UK standards.

Cardiff does not yet have a tram or metro system, though a new South Wales Metro is under development. For day trips to the surrounding valleys and coastal towns, the local rail network is frequent and cheap — Penarth, Barry and Pontypridd are all under 30 minutes away.
