A former coaching inn opposite the church, the Royal Oak has been at the centre of Betws-y-Coed since the days when the Holyhead road ran through to the Irish packets. The wood-panelled bar still does a brisk evening trade in walkers, climbers and locals. Beers are decent and the food keeps reasonable hours by village standards.
The hotel itself is one of the larger places to stay in the area, but the bar is welcoming to drop-ins.
