Conwy Falls

Powerful waterfall where the Conwy plunges over a hard band of rock

About two miles south of the village, the River Conwy throws itself over a horseshoe of dark rock into a deep pool. Conwy Falls is less famous than Swallow Falls and you may have it to yourself outside the busiest months. Paths from the Conwy Falls Cafe lead through old woodland to the viewpoint.

The same site has the Fairy Glen a little further downstream, a tight rocky gorge with smaller cascades and pools that is worth pairing with the main falls in a single walk.

A story
A salmon ladder cut into the rock alongside the falls was built in the 19th century and rebuilt in the 20th — for years it had a glass viewing panel so visitors could watch the fish wrestle their way up. The ladder is still there; the viewing panel is not.
