Cow Wreck Beach

Quieter north shore beach, named for the wreck of a ship carrying cattle bones

Cow Wreck Beach is at the western end of Anegada's north shore — quieter than Loblolly Bay and requiring a longer drive on rough tracks from The Settlement. The reward is a wide beach with clear water and, on most days, very few other people.

The bar and restaurant here has been a fixture for decades, serving the standard Anegada menu: lobster, fresh fish, and cold rum punch. The snorkelling is decent close to shore. This is the kind of beach where you anchor a sailboat, row ashore, and spend the afternoon.

A story
The name comes from a 19th-century wreck that broke up here while carrying a cargo of cattle bones — they washed ashore for years afterward. Today the beach is known for its bone-coloured sand and clear water. It is generally quieter than Loblolly Bay and attracts a slightly more determined beachgoer, since getting here requires a bit more effort on the island's rough tracks.
