A few kilometres west of town, the Hardy Mountain Doukhobor Heritage Site preserves one of the most complete examples of the communal-villages the Doukhobors built when they settled this valley after 1899. The two-storey brick and timber dwelling, banya (steam bath), bake oven, and outbuildings are arranged around an open yard exactly as they were when the village was founded.
Volunteers run guided tours in summer and you come away with a clear picture of how communal Doukhobor life actually worked — shared kitchens, prayer meetings rather than churches, no police or formal hierarchy. A short, vivid history lesson in a beautiful setting.
