Starting in the 1990s, local artist Pete Ryan began carving wildlife sculptures from cedar using a chainsaw, and the town gradually accumulated enough of them to be worth seeking out. Eagles, bears, salmon, owls, and mountain goats appear on street corners, in the town park, outside businesses, and along the main commercial strip. Ryan carved most of them from salvaged logs, and some pieces are large enough that you walk past them without registering what you're looking at until you stop.
There is no formal map, but the Visitor Centre on Water Avenue can point you toward the main concentrations. The town park near the Rambo statue has several pieces grouped together. The carvings vary in age and condition — some have been outdoors for decades and show it, while newer ones still have the pale colour of fresh cedar. It is not a world-class gallery, but it is an unusual thing for a small town to have done with its streetscape, and the quality of the best pieces is genuinely impressive.
