BC Wildlife Park

Native-wildlife park east of the city, home to bears, cougars and birds of prey

The BC Wildlife Park sits on a hillside about 18 km east of Kamloops along the Trans-Canada Highway, on a 100-acre site that doubles as a rehabilitation centre for injured and orphaned wildlife. The collection includes most of the headline animals of the BC interior — grizzly and black bears, cougars, lynx, wolves, mountain goats, bighorn sheep, moose, plus a strong showing of raptors (bald eagles, golden eagles, owls).

The animals are housed in large naturalistic enclosures rather than zoo cages, and most have been rescued because they could not be returned to the wild. Daily talks and bird-of-prey flying demonstrations run through the summer. Plan two to three hours; a useful stop for families and good preparation for backcountry travel.
