Sun Peaks is the second-largest ski resort in Canada by skiable area, after Whistler Blackcomb, with 4,270 acres of terrain spread across three mountains — Tod, Sundance and Mount Morrisey — and a vertical drop of 882 metres. The snow is consistently dry and powdery (the resort sits in the dry interior, well east of the coast ranges) and lift lines are typically a fraction of what you find at Whistler.
In summer the resort runs lifts for mountain biking on a substantial trail network, plus golf, hiking and concerts. The pedestrian-only village at the base is small but pleasant, with a cluster of restaurants, ski-rental shops and cafés. From Kamloops, the drive is about 45 minutes on a winding mountain road that should be taken seriously in winter.
