Quails' Gate is one of the Okanagan's most respected wineries, occupying an estate on the west bank of Okanagan Lake with vineyards that slope down toward the water and views across to the Kelowna mountains. The estate has been producing wine since the 1950s and the quality is consistently high — the Chardonnay and Pinot Noir are the most celebrated, and the wines regularly appear on serious Canadian restaurant lists.
The Old Vines Restaurant, set among the vines on the estate, is one of the better places to eat in the Kelowna area: Okanagan produce done carefully, with wines matched by the glass and a terrace that overlooks the lake and vineyards. The tasting room is well-run and not condescending — a good choice for visitors who want to understand the Okanagan wine style rather than just sample it. 3303 Boucherie Road, West Kelowna.
