Nelson eats well for its size. The combination of a health-conscious population (the outdoor culture), a counterculture food tradition (back-to-the-landers brought vegetable gardens and whole grains), and a steady influx of younger residents from bigger cities has produced a downtown restaurant strip that holds its own. Baker Street and the blocks around it have a concentration of independent restaurants covering most of what you'd want.
