Lynn Headwaters Regional Park

Lynn Headwaters is the 4,685-hectare regional park immediately upstream of Lynn Canyon, covering the upper Lynn Creek watershed and the lower slopes of Lynn Peak, Coliseum Mountain, and the Cathedral massif. It is significantly wilder than Lynn Canyon or Capilano: no admission, no bridges over the creek, very limited cell signal, and bears are routinely sighted on the trails.

The basic loop is the Lynn Loop trail — 5 km, 2 hours, gentle — which follows the creek north into the forest and returns on the higher Cedars Mill trail above. The longer Norvan Falls trail (14 km return, 5–6 hours) goes deeper into the watershed to a 30-metre waterfall and is one of the better day hikes in the area. The most ambitious option, the Hanes Valley route, climbs the southern slope of Crown Mountain and links across to Grouse Mountain — a serious all-day proposition with route-finding required at the top.

Park at the trailhead and sign in at the registration board; the rangers run a check-out system because of the genuine wilderness conditions. Bring bear spray for the longer routes and check the BC Parks alerts page before you go for trail closures.
