Exploration Place is the city's main family-oriented museum, occupying a landmark building in Lheidli T'enneh Memorial Park on the south bank of the Fraser River. The museum covers the natural history of northern BC, the cultures of the Lheidli T'enneh and other First Nations of the region, and the area's settler history including the railway and forestry industries. A narrow-gauge steam train operates in the park seasonally.
The science exhibits are strong on geology and palaeontology — the region has produced significant fossil finds — and there's a hands-on children's gallery. Fort George Park adjacent to the museum is a pleasant riverside walk with good views of the Fraser and the confluence with the Nechako. It's the most attractive natural setting in the city proper.
