The most reliably good café in Revelstoke, on the main Mackenzie Avenue strip. The Modern Bakeshop does proper espresso drinks, fresh-baked pastries, sandwiches, and a rotating selection of cakes — it is the kind of place that a mountain town this size doesn't always have. Busy on weekends when skiers and hikers come through. The bread is baked in-house and worth buying a loaf to take on a hike.
The café occupies a renovated heritage storefront on the main drag, a block from the railway station. It opens early enough to catch the first ski gondola run, which the locals appreciate.
