Bars and Cafes

Vancouver's nightlife is concentrated downtown along Granville Street, where dance clubs, live music venues and cocktail bars line up side by side. The scene ranges from polished lounges in Yaletown to dive bars in Gastown to the craft brewery taprooms that have taken over several industrial blocks on the east side. The Davie Street strip in the West End has a lively gay-friendly bar scene, and Main Street and Commercial Drive are the indie, neighbourhood-bar alternatives.

The city is also a serious craft beer town. The brewery district around East 4th Avenue and the strip along Powell Street are dense with taprooms — Strange Fellows, Powell Street Craft, Parallel 49, Brassneck, 33 Acres are all easy walking distance from each other and most do flights and food. Coffee culture is equally serious: 49th Parallel and Revolver downtown, Matchstick on Main, Prototype in the West End all roast locally.
